1984

Here's something you don't see that very often, two different soundtracks from the same movie. Here's the reason why (thanks to IMDB):

"Richard Branson's Virgin Films, the production company bankrolling the movie, had wanted a commercially viable pop act to compose the music for the film to increase its market potential. Originally they approached David Bowie, who had used Orwell's novel as inspiration for some songs on his 1974 album, "Diamond Dogs", but he demanded too much money for the job. They opted instead for Eurythmics, who had initially turned down the offer but later accepted. The director Michael Radford was unaware of this plan and had already hired Dominic Muldowney to compose the entirety of the film's musical score. Virgin Films exercised their right of final cut and dubbed in some of the Eurythmics score for the film's theatrical release. Radford was displeased with this development and retaliated by withdrawing the film for consideration for BAFTA award for Best Picture. When the film did win the Evening Standard award for Best Film of the Year, Radford took the opportunity to denounce the Eurythmics involvement in his acceptance speech at the nationally televised ceremony."

So, here's the soundtracks by both the Eurythmics and Dominic Muldowney. Enjoy....

Voices: WWE The Music Volume 9

Here's the WWE's latest compilation of their "sports entertainers" entrance themes. Enjoy....

Voices: WWE The Music Volume 9

Here's the Bonus Disc exclusively at Best Buy Only:

Voices: WWE The Music Volume 9 - Legends Of The WWE

Most Haunted

This show is a guilty pleasure to watch. It's one of the earliest entries in the paranormal TV genre that seems to be sweeping the airwaves as of late. This show was particularly noteworthy when Derek Acorah, the so-called spiritualist medium on the show, would get possessed by spirits. Enjoy this seemingly fan-made effort...

Most Haunted

The 'Burbs

This is one of my favorite films from the late 80's. The film shows that suburbia can have quite a dark side to it. If you haven't seen this yet, it will make you think a little bit differently about the new people who move into your nice suburban cul-de-sac. Enjoy....

Mark Rumsfield: That really burns my ass.
Bonnie Rumsfield: What?
Mark Rumsfield: That old fart. He's got the best lawn on the block. And you know why? Because he trains his dog to crap in my yard.

Download Link for Disc 2:

Vic, Garbageman #1: The question here is garbage. Who picks up this mess?
Mr. Rumsfield: Who picks up this mess? Well you're going to pick up this mess, because YOU are a garbage man.

The Dead Pool

Here's the soundtrack for the last of the "Dirty Harry" films. I've added "Welcome to the Jungle as sort of a bonus track. Enjoy this 1989 release....

Harry Callahan: [points out the biggest, nastiest-looking guy in the prison to Janero] See that gorilla down there? That's Butcher Hicks... and he's killed three men. You know how he did it? He tore 'em apart with his teeth! Didn't even find all the pieces... you might say he has an unhealthy appetite.
Lou Janero: [nervous, but trying not to show it] So what?
Harry Callahan: So Hicks there is my new pen pal. I'm going to be sending him a letter once a week, and I'm going to be telling him how I'm gonna be looking in on his sick mother, and how I'm trying to get him special privileges here at the prison. And you know what's the interesting part? The interesting part is if anything happens to me, and Hicks doesn't get his letter, he's going to be really pissed off, and he's going to come down here and see you because you're the mail man. In fact he'll probably come down here to this post office and cancel your ass like a stamp. So you'd better ensure prompt, courteous delivery, and pray that nothing happens to me.

Sudden Impact

Sorry about not posting this in such a late fashion, but I was in my annual anti-social holiday phase. Don't know why, but it happens every year. Well anyway, back to the matter at hand. Here's the soundtrack for the 1983 installment in the saga of "Dirty Harry" Callahan. Enjoy this gem by Lalo Schifrin....

Crook: [during a diner robbery] What's you doing, you pighead sucka?
Harry Callahan: Every day for the past ten years, Loretta here's been giving me a large black coffee- except today she gives me a large black coffee and it has sugar in it. Alotta sugar. I just came back to complain.
Crook: Say what, sucka?
Harry Callahan: Well, we're not just gonna let you walk out of here.
Crook: Who'se we sucka?
Harry Callahan: [slowly drawing his .44 Magnum] Smith and Wesson... and me.

Magnum Force

Last week, I posted the score for "Dirty Harry". Here's the score for "Magnum Force", the first of the "Dirty Harry" sequels. Enjoy....

Download Link:

Harry Callahan: Well, I just work for the city, Briggs!
Lieutenant Briggs: So do I, longer than you, and I never had to take my gun out of its holster once. I'm proud of that.
Harry Callahan: Well, you're a good man, lieutenant. A good man always knows his limitations...

Dirty Harry

This is one of my favorite Clint Eastwood titles, right along with the other four in the "Dirty Harry" series. There need to be more police officers like this on the streets. The crime rate would probably drop drastically, but lawsuits against the cities would probably rise. Enjoy this soundtrack from an awesome cop movie....

[Harry Callahan has to explain why he shot a man]
Harry Callahan: Well, when an adult male is chasing a female with intent to commit rape, I shoot the bastard. That's my policy.
The Mayor: Intent? How did you establish that?
Harry Callahan: When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross!
[walks out of the room]
The Mayor: He's got a point.

Piledriver: The Wrestling Album 2

Thank God for torrent files. I saw this gem and latched onto it right away. This is the second release by the WWE. I had this on vinyl back in the good old days. I don't even think this was released on CD. This release helped to pave the way for the current slew of WWE collections featuring entrance themes of their performers. Take a listen to this one just to hear Vince McMahon (yes, that Vince McMahon) performing on one of the tracks. Other standout tracks on this album feature the entrance themes for The Honky Tonk Man and Demolition. Enjoy this otherwise unavailable gem....

The Wrestling Album

This is the first album that the WWE released in the mid-80's to "showcase" the talents of some of their superstars. This is worth just the listen to hear Roddy Piper doing one of the cuts on this 1985 out of print release. Enjoy....

Torchwood

I know I've neglected this blog for quite a while, but I've been hanging out at mt other blog. Here's the soundtrack for the first of the current "Doctor Who" spin-off's. It's a cool show, but there are some themes in it which may put off some viewers. Enjoy...

Captain Jack Harkness: [voiceover during first season opening] Torchwood: outside the government, beyond the police. Tracking down alien life on Earth, arming the human race against the future. The twenty-first century is when everything changes. And you gotta be ready.

40 Year-Old Virgin

Here's a soundtrack from the twisted people who brought you Superbad and a host of other frat humor films. You'll never view Lionel Richie's "Hello" the same after watching this one if you haven't done so. Enjoy....

Download:

Trish: And what is this?
Andy Stitzer: [sounding exasperated] A vagina.
[last lines]
Trish: So how was it?

Doctor Who - Series Three

Here's some more music from the new version of my all-time favorite sci-fi TV series. You can probably find this one in the import or soundtrack section of your favorite record store or Best Buy. Enjoy....

Link:

Martha Jones: I battle with textbooks.
The Doctor: I battle with monsters.
Martha Jones: I've tried to save money.
The Doctor: I've tried to save the universe.
Martha Jones: I'm going to be a doctor.
The Doctor: I *am* the Doctor.
Martha Jones: Well, let's hope this box is big enough for the both of us.

Ghostbusters

Here's the soundtrack from one of the greatest comedies of the 80's. I remember that you couldn't go anywhere without hearing the title track from this one. Enjoy....

Download:

Dana Barrett: Are you the Keymaster?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Not that I know of.
[She slams the door in his face. Venkman knocks again]
Dana Barrett: Are you the Keymaster?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Yes. Actually I'm a friend of his, he asked me to meet him here

Superbad

This movie reminded me so much of my own youth that it's not even funny. I went through everything these guys went through. I wanted a phony ID, booze, and every girl that I came across. Fogell (or McLovin) is the funniest character in this movie. Enjoy this teen comedy soundtrack....

Superbad:

Evan: You changed your name to McLovin?
Seth: It doesn't even have a first name, it just says McLovin!
Evan: The guy's either going think 'here's another guy with a fake ID', or here's McLovin, 25 year old Hawaiian organ donor. Okay? So what's it gonna be?
Fogell: [grinning] I am McLovin.

Uncle Buck

This was John Candy's best film. If you haven't seen this movie, I would definitely say to check this one out. Macaulay Culkin and the other kids steal every scene that they're in. Enjoy....

Uncle Buck:

Buck: Did you brush your teeth?
Miles: Yeah. You can even feel my toothbrush.
Buck: You know, I have a friend who works at the crime lab at the police station. I could give him your toothbrush and he could run a test on it... to see if you actually brushed your teeth... or just ran your toothbrush under the faucet.
[Miles imagines hearing sirens, Buck leaves]
Maisy Russell: If that's true, we're gonna REALLY have to start brushing our teeth.

The Spy Who Shagged Me

This movie was the funniest one of the trilogy in my opinion. It introduced the world to the characters of Mini-Me and Fat Bastard. It also had two great soundtrack albums. Enjoy.....

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me:

Scott: [both are the Jerry Springer show] How could you do this to me? On national television!
Dr. Evil: Well throw me a freakin' bone here, Scott.
Scott: Why did you run out on me?
Dr. Evil: Because you're not quite evil enough.
[audience boos]
Dr. Evil: Well it's true! It's true! You're semi-evil. You're quasi-evil. You're the margarine of evil. You're the Diet Coke of evil. Just one calorie, not evil enough.

More Music From Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me:

Scott: Look, I was wondering if we could work all this out? You are, after all, my father.
Dr Evil: Scott, you had your chance, okay? I've already had someone created in my image. He's evil, he wants to take over the world, and he fits easily into most overhead storage bins.
Scott: Him? Look at him, he's crazy. He's like a vicious little Chihuahua thing. He'll kill me the first chance he gets.
Dr Evil: Probably.
